Clinical Trials at Fleury
Being the most traditional diagnostic center in Brazil, Fleury started its participation in Clinical Trials (CT) protocols in 1995.
In 1997, the patent protection was enforced, especially for the pharmaceutical products in the pharmaceutical companies’ pipeline. The new regulation, together with the install capacity and quality of the clinical investigators and the big naïve patient population, contributed to the country image as a reliable partner in Clinical Trials projects.
According to the increasing number of protocols, Fleury established the Clinical Trials Division, in order to fulfill the clinical trials clients and investigators expectations, which, sometimes, are different from what they expect from a clinical laboratory. Today, Clinical Trials Division has a staff of 12 professionals totally dedicated to Clinical Trials Central Laboratory Services activities.
At the end of 2006, Fleury Clinical Trials Division was handling more than 120 clinical trials protocols, serving more than 30 different clients and performing more than 300,000 tests per year.
Despite that this volume represents only 5% of the total laboratory output, there is a remarkable volume increase tendency in this segment, which is leading Fleury to put in place sufficient resources in order to face future challenges not only in Brazil, but also in the other Latin American countries.
